About the Hanson College

This two-year post-graduate certificate program will focus on understanding the cloud service models; the financial, technological and organizational implications of migrating to the cloud; the storing and sharing of data using the cloud; and the security and privacy implications of cloud computing. In semester four, students are expected to complete a mandatory 15-week paid co-op work term which will offer hands-on professional experience and industry connections.

Program outline

To be considered, applicants require a post-secondary diploma or CCBH degree from an Ontario College or equivalent, including graduate of a recognized two or three-year post-secondary I.T. related program or graduate of a recognized two or three-year post-secondary program, and relevant work experience in the I.T. industry (may be considered on an individual basis)

Applicants from non-English-speaking countries must achieve the minimum requirements of an overall IELTS score of 6.5 and no band less than 6 issued in the past 24 months. Duolingo score of 120+.

1. Exemptions may be granted to international students from certain countries who have completed at least 3 years of formal academic studies in which English was the medium of instruction.

Students can also satisfy the English language proficiency requirement by successfully completing the EAP program offered by Hanson Language School. Applicants are required to obtain a minimum score on the English Placement Test before final approval and completion of their registration. As a result of widespread suspension of IELTS and other testing platforms during the COVID-19 pandemic, Cambrian College will temporarily accept the Duolingo English Test, IELTS Indicator and the TOEFL-iBT® Special Home Edition to demonstrate English Proficiency.

*Hanson College of Business, Health & Technology specializes in educating international students and only accepts non-Canadian applicants possessing valid study permits into programs for which it partners with Cambrian College.

How will Hanson College’s programs help me to become eligible to apply for immigration streams to Canada?

Our programs are structured to optimize co-op and academic breaks within a diploma program, providing international students with ample opportunities for gaining significant full-time work experience in their field of study. By completing our programs, international students will enhance their eligibility for several immigration streams including Federal Skilled Worker, BC PNP Tech, Canadian Experience Class (via LMIA), BC PNP Skilled Worker Stream, BC PNP Health Authority Stream.

What is the difference between academic break and co-op?

Completing co-op work experience is a mandatory component of our diploma program and is essential for graduation. Academic breaks are intended for international students to work full-time and gain work experience to enhance their eligibility for immigration programs. The more relevant work experience you have, the better your outcomes for immigration

What is the difference between the different immigration streams and Post Graduate Work Permit?

The Federal Skilled Worker, BC PNP Tech, Canadian Experience Class (via LMIA), BC PNP Skilled Worker Stream and BC PNP Health Authority Stream are provincial and federal immigration programs that enable skilled workers with work experience in Canada or abroad, to immigrate to Canada as permanent residents. The Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) program allows eligible graduates to obtain an open work permit, which enables them to work in Canada for a limited time.

Do these programs guarantee PR?

As with other immigration programs, IRCC has the ultimate authority in determining eligibility for PR. Although we cannot ensure PR for our programs, Hanson College will collaborate with employers and immigration officers to ensure that graduates have the best chances of success.

Can I stay in Canada while I apply for PR through FSW or other immigration streams after completing my program?

Yes. As soon as students fulfill the eligibility criteria for BC PNP or FSW, we advise them to apply for PR. If you are employed in a skilled profession during your co-op, it is likely that your employer can support you to continue working after graduation, through a Labour Market Impact Assessment. Hanson will work with your employer to apply for an LMIA on your behalf. You may also switch to visitor status while waiting for PR processing. Individuals on visitors’ visas can apply and receive a work permit for six months, if they are supported with a positive LMIA.

Will Hanson College help me with PR applications after program completion?

Yes. Hanson College will host immigration sessions with Registered Canadian Immigration Consultants for PR applications.

Can I use my employment as my co-op?

Yes. If your program of study and your employment are related, you can use your employment towards your co-op hours. Students may work full-time during the co-op period and during scheduled break periods as long as it does not exceed 150 consecutive days and 180 cumulative days per calendar year.

Why should I choose Hanson College programs over a public institution that grants PGWP?

Hanson College programs simplify the route for students toward permanent residency, bypassing the temporary work permits offered by PGWP programs. Moreover, PGWP programs frequently experience high demand with limited seat availability. Public institutions often charge twice as much tuition compared to Hanson College's fees. Our programs aim to provide graduates with significant work experience through well-structured CO-OP and academic breaks, which are NOT offered extensively in public institutions
